Seoul
The first settlers on the area of Seoul appeared around 4000 BC.

The Korean general Yi Tae'jo appointed the city of Hanyang 1394 capital. The inofficial name 'Seoul' is the native name for 'capital'.

During invasions from Japanese and Manchus Seoul was ransacked several times.

Today Seoul has about 10.8 million inhabitants, the surrounding area is home of another eight million people. About 40% of South Koreans live in and around Seoul.
